A project can only proceed if it receives all the necessary consents from Bury Council and the Environment Agency.  As hydro-power projects are complex we have appointed experienced and award winning Renewables First to lead on this aspect of the project.

They have been liaising with the relevant bodies on our behalf and are available to help answer questions from other river users.  Information has been included in a pack at Bury Library for public access, if you would like to view the plans.

We have successfully obtained Planning Permission for the project, as well as our Abstraction Licence from the Environment Agency.

Key aspects of our project are as follows:-

  • It will provide sufficient clean electricity to supply over 60 households and the local fire station.
  • It is on a weir which has no imminent prospect of removal and where there are no significant ecological concerns.
  • It will be a low impact scheme with wide community involvement and ownership.
